Qigong Terms

Ān jìng
安静 — means calm; still; quiet. (Here “jìng” carries the same meaning of stillness.)

Bǎi huì
百会 — means crown of the head; a major acupoint (GV20).

Chōng zú
充足 — means plenty of; abundant; full.

Dǐng tiān lì dì
顶天立地 — means stand tall between heaven and earth.
Literally: Dǐng (顶: head lifts upward / support the sky) + Tiān (天: heaven / sky) + Lì (立: stand firmly / root) + Dì (地: earth / ground).
In practice: align the body by lifting through the crown of the head and rooting through the feet — creating a stable, upright, and expansive state of being.

放松 — means to relax; release tension.

Gōng néng
功能 — means function.

Hǎo
好 — means good; okay; fine.

好啦 — means all better; done; okay now.

Shén yì zhào tǐ
神意照体 — means spirit and intention illuminate the body.
Literally: Shén (神: spirit / deep awareness) + Yì (意: intention / focused attention) + Zhào (照: illuminate / shine upon / fill like light) + Tǐ (体: body / whole being).
In practice: let your awareness and intention spread throughout your entire body like light filling a room — not focusing on one spot, but covering the whole.

Shén zhù tài kōng
神注太空 — means spirit focuses on the vast space; mind rests in infinity.
Literally: Shén (神: spirit / deep awareness) + Zhù (注: pour into / focus upon / direct to) + Tài (太: great / vast) + Kōng (空: space / emptiness / the infinite).
In practice: let your awareness expand outward beyond the body, merging with the vastness of space — like pouring a glass of water into the ocean.

通畅 — means smooth; unobstructed; flowing freely.

Wài jìng nèi jìng
外敬内静 — means outwardly respectful and composed, inwardly still and calm.
Literally: Wài (外: outside / external) + Jìng (敬: respectful / reverent / composed) + Nèi (内: inside / internal) + Jìng (静: still / quiet / calm).
In practice: the outer posture reflects quiet reverence and dignified composure, while the inner mind settles into deep stillness — respect on the outside, stillness within.

Xīn chéng mào gōng
心澄貌恭 — means mind clear and serene, appearance respectful and composed.
Literally: Xīn (心: mind / heart) + Chéng (澄: clear / pure / serene) + Mào (貌: appearance / demeanor) + Gōng (恭: respectful / reverent / composed).
In practice: let the mind settle into clarity and transparency, while the outer posture reflects quiet reverence and inner dignity.

Xíng sōng yì chōng
形松意充 — means body relaxed, intention/awareness expanded and full.
Literally: Xíng (形: body / form) + Sōng (松: relax / loosen) + Yì (意: intention / awareness) + Chōng (充: fill / expand / be full).
In practice: allow the body to release all tension while the mind expands outward — like water filling a vessel, or air filling a balloon.

Yī niàn bù qǐ
一念不起 — means no single thought arises; mind free of thoughts.
Literally: Yī (一: one / a single) + Niàn (念: thought / mental movement) + Bù (不: not / without) + Qǐ (起: arise / rise up).
In practice: rest in a state before thought — allowing all mental chatter to settle, like ripples fading from the surface of a still lake.

Zhàn zhuāng
站桩 — means standing meditation; standing like a stake.

Zhèng cháng
正常 — means normal; regular; functioning properly.
